Apocryphal Mini-Festival II
photo Birthe Jorgensen (Besides you lose your soul or... @ Lorum Ipsum Gallery 2008) Apocryphal will once again showcase work of its lab members and the group’s work together in this mini-festival. What makes the members of Apocryphal lab unique is that everyone creates their own work as well as performers with Apocryphal and we are excited to show you the multiplicity of imaginations that make up Apocryphal.
For a sneak preview of some of the work which will be shown in a more developed form at this festival go to An Apocryphal Mini-Festival to see what we presented in January-February 2008 at Lorem Ipsum Gallery in London in scratch form. Also for a preview of In case I forget, which will be showing at the Camden Fringe Festival, 3-5 August at 4.30pm, click here for more information. In addition to these works, we will revive The Jesus Guy and show a first blush performative response by the lab to our next major project: Besides, you lose your soul, or the History of Western Civilization. Another exciting part of the festival will include Julia Lee Barclay, and members of Apocryphal, leading an intensive workshop in our working methods and discoveries, which will culminate in workshop participants creating their own short piece using the Apocryphal tools, for an informal showing on the final day of the festival.
If you are interested in our work, how we do it, and searching for ways to stimulate your own practice with new tools, this would be a good workshop for you.
The workshop will be small (no more than 12 people), so if interested send along your CV to julialeebarclay <at> yahoo.com for consideration. The workshop will take place in the main theatre space over 20 hours during the festival, on the weekends, and cost £100/£50. More information see Workshops --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apocryphal Theatre has recently formally incorporated and is now looking, urgently, for an experienced producer for our next project. We are applying to the Arts Council and private foundations for money to produce our next show Besides, you lose your soul or the History of Western Civilization in February 2009 at Camden People's Theatre. We successfully produced "The Jesus Guy" at CPT in March 2006 with funding from the Arts Council, in-kind support from CPT and financial and in-kind support from Rose Bruford College. However, this time we are budgeting for a freelance producer who can help us move the work outside of the lovely but small frame of London experimental/fringe/live art world into a larger national and international context. The company is made up of many nationalities, including, right now, Germany, Argentina, Switzerland, Denmark, Britain and the U.S. We believe therefore that we should be moving the work outside of one area to many and that we have the capability to do so. However, so far, we have not had the producing support to make this happen. What we are seeking is someone who has both vision and experience as a producer who loves experimental theatre and is interested in the kind of work we do and helping us promote it (without trying to change it into something it isn't or pretend it's something it isn't). If Apocryphal intrigues you at all, please contact us directly and we will give you more information about the company and this specific project. We are looking for someone urgently, as we need to get grant application in to Arts Council in the next couple of weeks and they will probably only fund a producer if they know who that person is. However, it should be said, we will still be working with a modest budget for this particular project, so whilst there will be a fee but it will most likely not be huge. Assuming we move up the level we want to move in this project (with your help), we would then have more money to pay everyone more in the future. Contact Lucy Avery through this site. If interested in the position, please send your CV and a short paragraph about your experience with and philosophy of producing.
